(Baton Rouge, LA) On Thursday, March 7th, over 150 women gathered at BREC’s Milton J. Womack Park on Florida Blvd. to hear the stories of women who overcame obstacles to reach their level of success and fulfillment at the Women Empowering Women event. Included were Break-out sessions designed to offer resume writing techniques, interviewing skills, wellness, and inspiration. Hosted by the Capital Area United Way, awe-inspiring speakers came from many women as well as our very own, Michelle Arceneaux, Associated Grocers’ Food Service Director. Each message packed power and purpose, with the women in the room seeing a piece of themselves in another. Michelle delivered a message that mentorship and advanced education, whether it’s through school or certifications in your skill, is a path to travel to become better at what you do.
The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank led a cooking demonstration in which Associated Grocers/AGives! sponsored. Each participant left the event with a recipe and a bag of fresh produce provided by Associated Grocers/AGives! so that the women could prepare the recipes at home for their families. Also, included was a gift certificate to local Associated Grocers retail stores for participants to pick up the protein item shown during the demonstration.
The event is part of United We Feed. The event attendees were individuals of the ALICE population, serviced in United Way’s 10 parish area. ALICE is an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. United Way services a 10-parish area in Louisiana.
